Scan an Invoice

Snap a photo of a distributor invoice. PourCost reads the line items and gets you to a review screen.

Invoice scan is the feature that pays for itself the first week. Instead of typing line items into a spreadsheet, you photograph the invoice and PourCost extracts the data.

The flow

  1. Open Invoices and tap the plus.
  2. Allow camera access if it's your first time. PourCost only uses the camera to capture invoices.
  3. Frame the full invoice in the viewfinder. The whole page, corner to corner. Crisp, well-lit, no shadows across the line items.
  4. Capture. PourCost uploads and runs OCR.
  5. Wait a few seconds. The review screen opens with extracted line items.

Multi-page invoices

Capture each page separately. PourCost stitches them into one invoice in the review screen. There's no hard limit, but the review experience gets unwieldy past five or six pages; consider splitting really long invoices by category.

Quality matters

Bad photos make for bad OCR. If line items aren't extracting, the fix is almost always lighting or focus, not the app. Reshoot in better light before manually correcting fields.
