Multi-Size Bottles

Same brand, different container sizes. How PourCost handles 750ml, 1L, and handles in one inventory entry.

Updated May 6, 2026

Most bars carry the same spirit in more than one size. House gin in 750ml for the call shelf and 1.75L handles for the well. PourCost treats those as one ingredient with multiple sizes, not two inventory entries.

The mental model

Product Size

The container size you buy. 750ml bottle, 1L bottle, 1.75L handle, 12oz can, case of garnish.

Pour Size

How much you pour per drink. Standard spirit pour is 1.5oz; wine is 5 to 6oz; a dash is roughly 1/32oz.

Why one ingredient, multiple sizes

The brand is the same. The cost per ounce is the same when you normalize. Splitting them into separate ingredients fragments your recipes and your invoice matching. Instead, the ingredient owns a list of available sizes, each with its own product cost.

How to add another size

  1. Open the ingredient.
  2. Scroll to Sizes and tap the plus.
  3. Pick the container (1L, 1.75L, custom ounces) and enter your cost.
  4. Save. Recipes can now reference this ingredient at any of its sizes.

Tip

Cost per ounce typically varies a little across sizes. A 1.75L handle is usually cheaper per ounce than a 750ml. PourCost shows each size's cost per ounce so you can see the volume discount and decide which to use as your default pour for cocktails.
